I firmly believe that music is a gift from God. While worship does not solely consist of music, it does play a vital role in our worship. Music often opens the heart and the spirit to receive the truth of God. Music sensitizes the soul to the Holy Spirit. God’s truth when combined with music packs a powerful punch.
Most know John Newton as the writer of the hymn Amazing Grace. Newton wrote many hymns, and one that I became aware of today is indeed a power one. A common theme in my blog is how suffering is an intrinsic part of our existence, and more importantly, for believers, how it is essential for our spiritual growth. In a few stanzas, Newton is able to convey more about suffering and growth than I could in one hundred blogs.
